About Michael GlesenkampGet to know the man behind the code!

I've always been intrigued by computers from a young age and while taking a variety of computer classes in High School and College, it became clear to me that the World Wide Web was the career path that I would both enjoy and excel in. My web development journey began in the fall semester of 2010 when I pursued an AS in Web Design & Development at St. Petersburg College in Florida. This is where I started learning and focusing on the fundamentals of Web Development. I began with the bare bones of HTML tags and syntax. I was first introduced to the techniques of inline styles and as I progressed through the program, I began to learn and appreciate the ability that the languages of CSS and JS have in creating and maintaining enterprising websites. The Adobe Suites, FileZilla, Notepad++, Sublime Text are some of the other awesome programs I became familiar with utilizing in web development.

As a requirement to earn my degree, I needed to fulfill a 6 month internship. I was immediately blessed in January of 2011 when I was given the opportunity at Digital Lightbridge, a strategic marketing company. I completed my internship and earned my AS in Web Design & Development from St. Petersburg College of Florida in the spring of 2011 and I was then hired fulltime as a Web Developer at Digital Lightbridge.

I thought HTML Templates in Dreamweaver CS2 were the greatest thing until I learned about the strength of PHP, Databases (MySQL) and Content Management Systems (CMS). The CMS that I currently use is MODx Revolution. One of the many benefits of using MODx is that it is simple to implement any website design into the system without having to heavily modify an existing theme. MODx also has an easily manageable interface for the less skilled. This is great for training clients in how to gain the ability to customize their own content.

As a web developer, I love what I do. I can use my preference of logical thinking while enjoying the opportunity to help an individual or business accomplish their goals in a modern and efficient way. It gives me great pleasure when I am building a website with complex and custom functionality or simply creating a web presence to boost a business's ability to gain potential customers. As this field constantly changes, staying on the edge of new technology keeps things fun and interesting for me. The challenge to learn quickly is something I'm not afraid of, whether it's learning a new language like PHP or jQuery or techniques like AJAX. I am willing to learn whatever is needed to get the job done!
